  1. You also have to take into account the wheel base for a truck is significantly longer than most SUVs to provide stability when towing large trailers. And most of the trucks weight is over the front axle leaving the rear plenty of capacity for a heavy trailer.

Good point, but a slight counterpoint. The length of the wheelbase being less important as max payload trucks tend to be single cab duallies, shortest of the bunch. Also you can only put some much tongue weight on to the truck before the front wheels are merely a suggestion in which direction the truck is moving.

I think a significant amount of trailering capability rests in the suspension and an SUV being a huge compromise in nearly every department, they will not sacrifice ride and handling for a somewhat greater payload.

  2. On all of these, their main limitation is the unibody. Take a look at the towing rating of Ridgeline and why it's only 5,000 while it's payload capacity beats certain trucks in it's class.

Also 4500 lbs. SUV has more than enough weight to tow 5,000 lbs. of anything. I have an old '96 GMC K1500 extra cab, long bed, with heavier tow package axle, etc., and it weighs in at almost exactly 5,200 lbs. That is not much more and it's rated to tow about 7,500 lbs. With a properly loaded trailer the SUV's can tow without any issues what so ever.

  3. An '03 ZX-6R was my first 'track only' bike... bought for the track, and only ridden ~150 miles on the street. Great bike, and like you said, confidence inspiring.

I sold it and bought an '05 GSX-R1000 after riding a friend's '01 just for grins and missing my personal lap record by .25 seconds... That 1000 was incredible, and just as easy to ride as the 600.

I rode an '07 ZX-6R at a Keith Code school... It was brand new with only 0.6 miles on the clock the first time I threw a leg over it... that one was broken in properly! ;)

Great bike, but felt slow compared to my GSXR. They also had the previous years plastics on them, which didn't fit and were touching down in every corner which was kind of a PITA.

I always wanted to ride a ZX-10, but never got 'round to it. Kawi's power delivery is usually much more 'interesting' than Suzuki's...

Very nice. I loved the 636's. If you have a chance to ride the '09+ ZX6R it will pleasantly surprise you. I had a chance to ride the '08 for a few hundred miles and did not care for it at all. '09s dropped more than 20 lbs and picked up power everywhere., especially in the midrange. It's very reminiscent of the 636 motor. Those big piston forks with the chassis changes work really well too.

  4. It's a Kendon trailer. Got it used from a guy that was getting out of racing. They are not cheap, but work really well, are really well built, last (that is an 80's model) and hold their value. Being so small they are a bitch to back up though, but easily cruises on the highway at 80-90 with full size tires. It also stows vertically and very easily; really why I got it. I had a Harbor Freight trailer before that, can't be beat for the money and works really well for what it is, but for one man it was hard to fold and stow.

I've been lucky to be able to have a decent amount of bikes throughout the years and be able to ride even more that are not mine, but that Tuono fits me so well. That engine and chassis are really something else, that it's the best bike I've ever ridden. It's not much harder to toss around than a 600cc super sport. I got the Tuono while having an '07 Speed Triple that I thought I'd never get rid of, loved that bike, but after getting the Tuono I rode the Speed Triple twice in 6 months. It made the bike seem very inferior. I still miss that Speed Triple though...

Since we are talking bikes and threads like these suck without pictures.

One of my other all time favorites is an '04-'05 ZX10R. I had an '04 for a while and mainly as a track machine. I've never had a bike scare me as much as that one, or one I've crashed as much. 9 out of 10 times I just felt like it was trying to kill me on slightest provocation, but that one out of ten time, when everything aligned just so, that bike made time stand still. On one hand I'm glad I got rid of it, on the other I still wish I had it.

Replaced the ZX10R with an '09 ZX6R. I was quicker on that bike than the '10 as it inspired so much more confidence. Really a great machine. Got rid of it as I got sick and could not do any more track days. Now that I'm better I was looking for one again, till I decided to trade my LGT for a '09 spec.B and put some money in to it...it just never ends.

Ah bikes...I could keep going ad nauseum ...:)

  5. Love bikes and have had at least one in the garage for couple of decades. Here are the two that are running at the moment. Got a few project bikes between my and my brothers garage too. Sometimes I think heroin addiction would be cheaper and easier to shake...

'15 Aprilia Tuono. Up at the Ridge for a track day.

    And the tow rig...

  6. A heads up would have been nice, but I really don't think it was that of a big deal for me. I was going to use my angle grinder on it, but the damned thing decided to fail by setting itself on fire right as I fired it up (pun intended) to do this...ha ha ha... I think all that fiberglass grinding got to it.

After a drive I did notice that the hot side was warm to the touch, but the cold, was actually really cool. Even though the hot side sits right over the turbo, which I have a PTP turbo blanket on, I was expecting hotter. The temps outside were in the high 40's or so.

  7. Installed mine this last Saturday. Instead of the coating I decided to put some reflective film on it.

Couple of things I noticed. The liner does not go back on to the underside of the hood. It might be able to, but I did not force it as it tears easily. The AC line bracket on the firewall mount is different on the LGT then WRX. There is a lip on the back of it that I needed to grind down to get the mount to angle properly. Here is what I'm talking about:

Otherwise I really like the intercooler and the splitter. Well engineered. What I really love is that you can access all the PIA hoses on the back of the manifold and below it without removing the intercooler. As my little BOV vacuum line got pulled off on the install and I could put it back without touching the IC. Very, very handy.

  8. Looks like you might have zeroed in on an injector problem. It would be hard to just throw a new one on there, as they are pricey, hoping to fix the problem. Let us know how it develops.

But in reality the safe way to go would be to upgrade those injectors to top feed and then just to be even safer, the turbo, pump, IC, clutch, and the rest of the lot to make sure that misfire is good and gone. :)

  9. When I installed my Perrin TMIC, I got the CMC cup from an STI, which sits a bit lower and back from the Legacy GT one. They are fully interchangeable. No issues with a fitment of the Perrin after that.

  10. As you've probably read, anything beyond stock, and even stock on the poor factory tune, you are running into issues of breaking the ring lands. Tune does have a lot to do with this as a bad one will wreck any engine, but for our cars the pistons and quality control on them seems to be a big issue as well.

With a good tune, 4032 alloy pistons should be significantly better than stock Subaru ones, while keeping the piston to bore clearances close to factory piston spec.
