Jazzy,How about Electrical Engineering Technology, class of '94?
Anyway, this sounds like the internal hookups that would normally correspond to the 16-pin external CD changer connector. See post #3 in http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=691652&page=1&pp=25
...for pin-outs of this connector.
This connector uses a 2-wire serial protocol, which is a bit tricky because both HU and external "changer" use the same data wire. It's an "open-collector" interface.
I think some Mazdas might use the same protocol, although some pins that are unused in Sube HUs may be used in certain Mazda HUs; see the aux. connector CN-200 at: http://www.miata.net/garage/m2interface.html

I own a left-hand drive 2006 2.0R (which has single zone climate control). I showed that page to my dealer, and they offered to import the part and see if it works. We'll see when it arrives.

There is a japan domestic market part that will replace the auto climate controls (H6217AG902SC), and has an opening for a 2 din aftermarket radio.
Youn can see a picture here:

I have a 2.0R and I'll install one of those as soon as my dealer gets one for me.

Mine also has a changer input and the CHNR button (for US people: no, I'm not in the US). But I couldn't find a way to use it.
