  1. I adapted more easily since I got older with each one. I was 23 or so when I had the 98 LGT turbo. Now I'm 36 with the 2015, married, and have two kids. So they all drove the way they were supposed to drive for how old I was :)

The 2015 feels a little bigger than past designs, and not as easy to throw around. But with some light mods, it'll be easier to do that. I've got an STi 20mm rear sway bar on it now, and putting on the 18x8.5 STi wheels this weekend with 245 wide tires. Should make it a little more grippy in the corners.

Know what you mean, maturity gets old real quick..

  2. The last time Fitchburg was mentioned in this thread was 2010. Time for a bump for Fitchburg!

    I'm on my fifth Legacy.

    1) 1998 Legacy GT w/turbo kit

    2) 2000 Legacy GT #1

    3) 2000 Legacy GT #2

    4) 2005 Legacy GT sedan

    5) 2015 Legacy 2.5i Limited (current)

What's is it like driving the "full" sized Legacy after 4 generations of the uh, sportier generations. Smaller as well.

  3. So far, there are 34 +/- million cars being recalled due to using the Takata airbag.

It's not like cars are getting repaired anytime soon.

I say make your passengers wear a spike on their chest so that the airbag won't hurt them if deployed.

  4. Just drove an 05 GT Limited home tonight.

Ain't scared to turn a wrench (my 1st joy was a '78 VW Bus Type II), but I'd say I'm pretty much gonna look silly in here for a while as I catch up. Looking to learn lots and contribute if/when I can. I've never "tuned" a car, but that's why I'm here!

Do a search for turbo maintenance and the banjo filter. A little pre-emptive care on a regular basis will keep you going for a long while.

  5. The web is a wonderful resource. I did a search on used tires and was able to find one of the exact tire that is on my car, with the same amount of tread as the other three. I also got a 4 wheel alignment at Village Subaru in Acton Ma. which I believe has fixed a longstanding issue. The "new" tire cost me $45 delivered to my door, and Subaru took care of the alignment since they are good people!:) Thanks to Laurie at S of A and Dave at Village!

Good news. My wife like the people at Villiage.

Note, the last two Subies we have purchased have come with bad alignments which led to premature tire wear.

  6. Hi Joe, I'd get 4 new tires.... we decided to go with V-rated BFGoodriches (225/55R17V) from CostCo. Great durable tires with lots of grip. Plus, you get a 50000 mile warranty from the guys. Something we have used numerous times.

Bridgestones were indeed useless, I'll never go that route again.

From memory, I think Subaru allows for only 1/8" difference in tire tread diameter, before potentially screwing up the differentials.

Not all places do it (and I have not) but it is possible to have a new tire shaved down to match the tread on the "good" / existing tires.

  7. I'm afraid I agree with the Toyota Venza add that suggests the new outback lacks style. My 2005 with a 6 cyl and 17" wheels looks great. The new ones look like a bloated jelly bean. I can't think of a new car offered today that gives the look and utility of my 05. What a shame. The Forester already fit the niche for customers wanting a small SUV. What happened to the sport wagon? VW diesel anyone?

Subauru seems to do this a lot, migrate an existing model into something else and replace it with a different model. I think, the style for the Outback you want is or, will be now found in the XV Crosstek. I think this gets to dealers sometime this fall. You should be able to Google this for a picture.

  8. Just saw an 05-07 silver LGT at the horseshoe pub in hudson ma. 115pm. Had aftermarket gunmetal wheels and oem spoiler. I parked 2 cars over from you, you came out and left while I was parked trying to get in touch with friends who were late

It wasn't me but, do they still have that open faced steak sandwich on the menu?

  9. To somewhat hijack the thread, does anyone know details of the cell phone use law now in effect in MA? OK, can't use one at all if under 18, no texting while driving, does flipping though an iPod / Phone to find something violate the law?

Say I spotted an LGT with some unique feature (like bmon...), illegal to snap a pic from a phone?

  10. When I need to overthrow governments I just hit the ATM first for some cash and leave the EZ-Pass at home.

Speaking of which, after my trip to Michigan over the weekend and being on toll roads in MA, NY, and OH I can't wait to see how much that all cost me...

Oh, we already know how much this cost and in fact that this is not a deductable business expense.

    Best Regards,
