  1. My son in Wilmington recently assumed ownership of my beloved '06 Spec.B. Can anyone recommend a good Subaru shop in the area? Car is in excellent shape with 170k miles on it and can go a long time with a good tech maintaining and repairing it.

    75k on her and running like a top. Manual recommended normal duty servicing performed.

     

    Mobil One 5/30 from 6k and OC at about evey 6k depending upon service use. Spark plugs from 60k looked clean.

     

    Suspension still feels extremely able. No bouce/rebound/float. Solid. Like new.

     

    A few scratches from Chicago parking.

     

    Great friggnin' car.

     

    Contiextremes on 17s are great "winter" tires. Very good in snow. Good in the wet. Quiet. Excellent tread wear (because cold temps keep them fresh as they rarely overheat).

     

    The Nav is outstanding. Having a hard drive really allows for so much cross referencing.

     

    E.G. The wife doesn't come on a road trip vacation because of last minute circumstances. Found that I could plot routes to hotels avoiding toll roads, freeways, via points of interest, calculating distance on the fly, avoiding certain specifically named roads. Friggin' masses of capability in the Kenwood hard drive Nav system. I also found it hard to get the throttle % indicator to 100%. Never in fact.

    #234 here and my experience has been very much like yours. 76k, running great, Mobil 1 every 4000-5000 miles with Subaru filter, all recommended maintenance done, suspension tight, still on the original brakes and bulbs, etc. I'm using Dunlop M3's on ASA 17's in the winter and am as happy with them as you are with your Conti's.

     

    Only problem was rear wheel bearings which were replaced free under Subaru's extended warranty. Can't say a bad thing about this car. It's a joy to drive it every day.

    On another note, IMO those are some hideous wheels. They look cheapy ASA's. Also looks like the calipers are painted red ... so someone did a few things to this car although nothing else too obvious.

    Am guessing the owner uses the 17" crappy wheels for winter tires to save the stock wheels from salt damage.

  4. Anyone have any pics of where the temp sensor is for the interior? I'm going to take apart the right side of the console as I've been told that's where it is (small slits in the left side plastic cover). I've got to find some way of controlling the heat. It's -22 deg F here so it's either hot air (set control at 66), or artic (set control to 65..the lowest) on the way to work. Yes, after 25 minutes it finally stabalizes and the interior sensor finally "warms up", but then I'm at work...

     

    Can you get the manual controls with MP3 capability (play mp3 disks)? I didn't think that option was available.

     

    Caramall - see below. Try this if you haven't already. I have not had a problem regulating the temp since using this approach....

     

    Repost: My heater was running hot too but I stumbled on to something that took care of the problem, and it is real simple. Instead of setting the Mode to where the heat is only coming from the lower vents or the upper and lower vents, set it to where it's coming out of the lower vents plus the defrost vents. When you set it to that mode, the A/C light will come on but you can just hit the A/C button to turn it off. I have not had a problem with getting cooked since I started doing this. Now, the 70 degree setting is quite comfy, where before if I had it at 66, it was very warm and I needed to crack at least one window or the sunroof.

     

    Many people have also complained about running the defroster in the summer, since it wants to blow warm air and quickly heats up the interior when that is the last thing you want. If you use the same mode setting as above (lower vents plus defrost vents), but leave the A/C light on, you will find that it defrosts with much cooler air.

  6. The Legacy definitely could use this in my opinion. It blows only hot on anything above 65 (at least in mine) for the first 15 or 20 minutes until the sensor "warms up". I emailed Sam personally and he just tried to install one on a new Legacy. Unfortunately the sensor is very hard to get at in the new Legacys. I think he finally stopped at some point but may try again.

     

    Boy, we really need this in my opinion. I drive all the time 15-20 spurts with a jacket on, etc, and roast or freeze as I flop back and forth between 65 & 66 on the dial. I long for my 95 honda with plain old manual controls.

     

     

    I have the exact same problem in my Spec.B and it didn't make any sense until I read through this thread. Regardless of the outside temp or what settings I use on the climate control, it gets VERY warm inside but then gradually it cools off over a half hour or so. The cooling occurs much more quickly if I'm driving on the highway. That would make sense because the higher speed forces more air circulation in the cabin if the vents are open, and hence the sensor will receive more of the heated air and react accordingly. If the Venturi design of the temperature sensor is what's causing this, and it sure sounds plausible, SOA really ought to offer some kind of fix for the problem. What is the protocol for getting issues like this to them?

     

    I'd like to know if there is anyone out there driving an 05 or 06 Legacy in colder climate who is NOT having a problem with excessive heat in the first minutes after starting up with a cool or cold cabin.
