  1. NO worries about the boost pic, I'll get the idea from the vac pic or a peak recall pic. I'm waiting for a bunch of assembled VBG1s to come into stock...I can get you one of those in a few weeks, this sounds like a warranty issue with the screens. Both screens? or just the right one? We'll get this figured out, sorry about the inconvenience.
  2. Lossol, do you have any intention of having auxiliary cables available again? I bought the VBG1 with the hopes of turning it into an oil pressure / boost gauge after I'm done tuning. I guess it's possible now that I'll also be able to keep my AFR as well, but either way I'll need a cable to run the oil pressure bits.

     

    Ah - so sorry - been crazy busy lately, I built one up and have it in stock now. I will be making more in the future as well.

     

    I do very much enjoy mine as well. I do have a feature request. I like the peak boost recall, but the boost plot doesn't do much for me. It would be nice to have a peak (rich) AFR recall at the same time as the boost recall. If peak isn't within the range called for by the OL fueling table, that could indicate a problem to log.

     

    Correct it does not show any peak for AFR - I have made a note to my self to add as a possible feature in the next rev. thefultonhow is correct is does cycle profiles for oil pressure.

  3. Good news! VBG1 will be back in stock soon. Slightly different hardware build was forced due to the production cut-off of the existing oled type. The new one looks very similar with a less of a gloss finish on the OLED itself, more of a matte Finnish. Very subtle differences, the new hardware performs identically to the existing hardware in both fit and function.

     

    The new hw changes force the software to be bumped to 1.05b8 rev. It will be soon available on the website and will work with all 1.05bX gauges. I few improvements and modifications have been made, these will be outlined when finalized.

     

    VBG1 should be back in stock next week. Happy Thanksgiving all.

     

    Regarding software updates - I while back I was planning on posting a new update to the website...Looks like I never did. Sorry about that. I will try to get this up this week.

    The updates are pretty minor but the software strategy has to been eliminate features that have little interest or value and add new ones. In version 1.09 I hope to add additional sensor support, so you can run dual sensors at the same time- People seem to want AFR and oil pressure the most. Some hate to choose and I understand. The hardware supports two channels. :)

     

    Do you have an idea of when more AUX adapters will be available?

  4. Drogos, what do you have the boost filter set to? (menu option 1)

     

    In the past there has been a lot of discussion about transient boost spikes and VBG1 sampling methods producing higher readings. We added boost filtering into the unit as an option to knock some of those transients down. So if your boost filtering is set higher it will reduce the peak values reported.

     

    If you desire a reading as close to "real" pressure as you can get - I recommend the setting of "Low" boost filter.

    They concluded that the VBG1 was more accurate on transients then their other form of measurement.

     

    The ECU and the VBG1 are inherently sampling on different clocks and at different rates. So depending on how the sampling points line up how fast the log actually reports boost, its entirely likely the whole difference is just sampling related.

    This is weird, because I had the opposite problem, at least with my old VBG1 -- it showed 1-2psi higher than the ECU did.

     

    That's correct - The old units had no boost filtering so peak transient values were latched as peaks and displayed after a pull, sometime up to 1-2 higher than logs were seeing.

     

    ...anything to do with start up/self calibration procedure maybe?

    Not likely - The start up procedure is pretty straight forward. The VGB1 takes somthing like 64 samples of the the boost line pressure (assumed to be ATM pressure) then averages the value and stores that as the baseline ATM value to calculate boost psi and vac. If you are using the approved fuse location you should be all set. People who have used the wrong location (improper power sequencing) saw wild results, if I remember correctly they were seeing almost no vac and higher boost by a +8 PSI.

     

    All that being said if you think your unit is acting funny you can always PM me or email me and I can take a look at it. I know people depend on their gauges reading accurately so I take the concerns seriously.

  6. Sorry been crazy busy lately...missed a few comments

     

    Wondering if you are going to change to a higher range for AFR on off throttle?

    So up it to like 22 instead of 19.7

     

    This may depend more on the input source. For instance the LC-1 will go to 22.39 so in theory we can make the top end a little higher. Is this something others would like to see?

     

    Anybody experience "flaking" on the face of the gauge? It's hard to describe it but it's still feels smooth to the touch but it almost looks like I see flaking or spotting on the face. I rarely ever touch the gauge so It's not wear and tear. I'll try and send a pic to lossol soon

     

    I think I know what you talking about...I have seen a few cases of this over the years. It's unclear to me why this happens. It has to do with an internal de-lamination of the graphic overlay color stack up.

     

    PM me and we can discuss options. I can ship you a new overlay for free if you can capture a pic of it.

  8. hey lossol, My gauge that I bought this february just stopped working.

     

    Shoot - So sorry to hear this - sounds like the gauge is starved for voltage. Do the Leds make a full sweep at all? (like a dimly lit sweep?) Check your power connections. If this doesn't work... you may need to send it back and I will replace it for you. Let me know how you make out.

  10. Sorry guys been on vacation but i'm back now.

     

    I'm not sure what rev I have I was one of the first beta testers for the rhd ones so I must find out of lossol which I have. I would really like to be able to get it to be able to display at least oil temp. I don't want to have to stick big ugly gauges on the dash!

     

    Hold all three buttons for a while and the version number should pop up - you should be able to do AFR or Oil pressure. Oil temp was never an option - there was a point in time where I offered ambient temp sensor aux sensor - but with little interest I dropped that option. Looks like most are interested in Oil pressure and AFR.

    I want to release an update that will allow two sensor options. However for now only one is supported in software.

     

    I do have one issue that randomly pops up. The top button randomly acts like it gets pressed and so it changes the second screen. The light beside the button lights up and all and stays lit for a good minute or two before going out which then I can press it to change it back to what I had. I have tried to duplicate it but it's completely random as to when it happens.

     

    Yes this is a known bug - thought to be software related. It was fixed to the extent that the gauge no longer locks up for more than about 30 secs. Then the gauge re-calibrates the touch sensors and continues on. I'm hoping to find the bug and release an update.

     

    The buttons on mine (all three of them) have completely stopped working several times recently. No light to indicate that they're stuck, either, although that had happened to me in the past. I'm wondering if I'd still be covered under warranty. Still very happy with the gauge despite the problems.

     

    This sounds like a warranty issue - and i will work with you to resolve this - do you know what version you are running?

    I guess my only worry about buying is that a new hardware revision would be released with cool features that I couldn't get without replacing hardware. I say that mainly because I've been watching this thread for a while, and this gauge set seems to have come a long way!

     

    VBG1 has come a long way - thanks much to input from this community. VBG1 hardware is pretty much locked down. Future software updates hope to include

     

    • a second aux sensor input
    • expanded input options (like oil temp)
    • optional serial interface to a CAN-OBD interface to read OBD paramaters
    • any bug fixes

     

    I got this installed today with the exception of the actual pressure line. Thanks for getting it shipped out so quick.

     

    Will the 0-5v work with any oil pressure gauge?

     

    No - I need to make this more clear on the website but if you want to do oil pressure this is the approved sensor.

  11. I dont know if its possible but I would like to see a change in the software to have a 25 AFR max selection then we can see the full range of the wideband.

     

    We may have to change the output of the lc1 to read higher than 20 then as well.

     

    This is not a bad idea, maybe just open the range up a tad. Here is a blurb about the LC-1 Default, I may go with that. "The second output is programmed to output between 0 V for an AFR of 7.35 (gasoline) and 5.0V for an AFR of 22.39." If others have opinions I would like to hear them before I make a change in the next rev.

     

    Also, I'm toying with the idea of adding some OBD CANBus support to the VBG1. Not sure how useful it would be. (feedback please) It would require a second box to establish a connection to the CANBUS. And a Serial connection to the VBG1 sending unit. (Because the VBG1 only has one serial connection, you would not be able to use PLX serial connection and CANbus connection at the same time). Some of the info you can read from OBD Can BUs connection would be:

     

    "Engine rpm", "Speed km/h", "Throttle %", "Engine Load %",

    "Coolant C", "Intake Air C", "Env. Temp C", "MAF Flow kpa",

    "Abs. Load %", "Fuel press", "Intake press", "Barometer press",

    I would have it designed so you can always leave the can bus interface installed, I don't want to have to worry about un-plugin it to prevent drain on the battery.     Let me know what you guys think of the idea, useful? or Forget about it...

  12. Seems like the LC-1 has a voltage offset which equates to about a .3AFR offset in the VBG1.

     

    What about trying setting the LC-1 as follows.

     

    0 Volt at AFR: 10.3

    5 Volt at AFR: 20.3

     

    In theory if the offset is linear, this should shift up the output of the LC-1 by .3AFR.

     

    To test at a fixed voltage/afr:

     

    5 Volt at AFR: 20.3

    5 Volt at AFR: 20.3

     

    This all assumes that there is nothing critically wrong with the LC-1 hardware. It's worth a try.

  13. 1. Once in a great while ill be driving down the road and I hear a beep and the top touch sensor light is lit up and the VBG1 is frozen. I have to reboot by shutting the car off and then back on to reset.

     

    There is a known issues with touch sensor re-calibration occasionally causing a button press on the upper right button. However, this clears after 20 seconds or less. This should not require a re-start. You are running ver 1.05b6?

     

    2. Seems my AFR with the LC-1 is reading about .3-.5 low vs Access Port vs Targets in mapping. I am going to check the grounding and recalibrate and report back.

    May try the flatline voltage check

     

    Check option 14 (Data Display Filtering) of the config menu, make sure this is set to low for the fastest AFR updates.

     

    3. If the VBG1 goes to sleep and you want to wake it by pressing the top button it goes to the next display item in line instead of waking up where you were. For Ex. if I am monitoring AFR and it goes to sleep, when I wake it with the button it goes to peak, or voltage or whatever is next in line. So if I want to go back to what it was monitoring previously I have to hit the button 4 times.

    Its seems that in previous software if you woke it up it would be where it was previously.

    Am I wrong on that???
