I got it with blown heads gaskets. Supposedly it over heated once, nothing seemed warped. I pulled the motor, checked for warpage with a machinists straight edge, prepped heads on 1/2 in glass and sandpaper, block was prepped similarly. Valves were good so did nothing to them. This time around I’m not sure about valves, I’ve never really messed with them besides in a few motorcycles with adjustable lifters. This is an ej2.5d so it has the other kind…can’t think of the name…I learn as I go, fairly competent lol, just more of a parts swapper than a troubleshooter. Son isn’t sure if he wants to spend the money to fix it or get a reliable car. I’m curious though so I may tear into it to kill that… I just did the rear ring and pinion in my jeep, needs to do the front now…

It was the evergreen kit, which I thought got good reviews. Cams all turned normal, maybe something seized, but then broke also? Guess we’ll take it apart to see. Most sure it’s worth the money to fix that much damage…his car, his choice. Its nice when things break close to home lol. This happens miles away.

Yep…all was new. Plus water pump and whatever else was recommended with it apart.

Ouch. I was hoping for the best lol. It’s a beater but he has no money for a better car yet. guess I better get a cart together for new gaskets and stuff.

Everything spins free. The tensioner is loose as it cannot tension on a belt… Well….pull the motor and check the valves or just try a belt?

Lol…I know…still working on the crank pulley…

Soooo….why would a new belt break?!?!? I'm pulling the rest of the cover as we speak…

I’m hoping I can line up the marks… figured pulling the belt as a”reset” like I just put the heads on, if it can to that… All was new when I did the heads…last year? since it was apart, belt, tensioners, water pump, etc. Probably should get a new belt if it jumped teeth don’t you think? Might have rounded edges to slip again? Guess I shouldn’t put the cart before the horse….

The battery is definitely old but would start it with no problems. It seamed slower like it was struggling more…even with the bad battery. Unless there is a better way, I was gonna pull the covers, get it at TDC, and check the marks. I was even thinking of pulling the timing belt so I can confirm with the belt markings.

Ugh….I have hearing loss…but it sounded like it did, it was turning over slower…

Weird, maybe he gave it a little too much oomph. yeah, hopefully nothing is damaged badly then, he didn’t hear a clunk, bang etc. not that that doesn’t mean it’s fine
