Today I tried to take off my EGR Valve and was unsuccessful. I was able to remove the 4 bolts for the EGR Pipes, but the 4 bolts to the intake manifold would not break free. Tried to use a right angle impact (60lbs torque) but was unsuccessful. Tried to use PB Blaster, didn't help considering the upward direction.

I then removed the alternator and tried from the front, again was unsuccessful.

    I have about 113k miles.

Has anyone else had problems and/or success taking off their EGR Control Valve. Anyone have any tips on how to remove the EGR valve from the intake manifold. My next step is to remove the intake manifold and then remove the EGR control valve with the intake manifold out of the engine. I don't particularly want to do this, but that may be the only way.

Has anyone had to have their EGR valve replaced because the EGR valve was throwing a code?

    Thanks

I like to know if you fixed it. thanks

Yep the valve is good after checking that i spent a long time removing the bottom egr pipe due to its location it was a pain to get off but its turns out that was also clogged and after i cleaned that one out light is gone! i have drove 250 miles since and have not seen the light! Im so happy to say I have finally beat the annoying light! Big shout out and thank you to Painless for helping me and sending me the EGR part of the service manual!

I think that may not be the correct part for a 2016 Legacy 2.5.

Yeah it is not the correct part. But I like to say, i dint know these is a way to expand the diagram to get the part name and the number. When silverton sent me the link, it made my search easy to find the right part. Unfortunately OEM is currently not avalable at my nearest dealers.  Found the same on Rockauto for cheap. Noting wrong with the part now, but both the switch and sensor is very rusty, so replacing it before it get bad. Will order it today. Thank, I appreciate it.

Was not sure if it was a replacement question.  First one is immediately after the corrugated pipe which is normal as the corrugation causes turbulence.  They became more "in vogue" as fuel efficiency requirements increased and customers complained about hearing engine noises.  They want cabins like coffins and 50mpg.

Will have to attempt to commit Helmholtz to memory. I knew it was a German name, but failed to recall and was replying from my phone.  Part number was much faster to pull up.

Thank you so much, I appreciate it. Have a great week-end.

Yep. Technically, it's called a Helmholtz resonator, and there are at least two of them along the Gen 6 Legacy's intake tract, between the air filter and the throttle body.  These have at least two purposes: 1) to dampen (i.e. smooth) intake airflow for better air/fuel mixture control, which may result in better fuel economy and lower exhaust emissions, and 2) to reduce engine intake noise.

WOW, Well explained, I appreciate it, thank you.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I checked its function online and its so confusing. I am watching it again and again. Thanks again.
