License Plate Bulb removal replacement

I figure i post this since no one's done it yet with pictures. This process is a little too hard and daunting for someone who has never done it, so here is the pictorial process.

 

1. Remove trim fasteners. Either grab onto the carpet and pull down slowly...or use some kind of tool. 3 trim fasteners in total to remove.

2. Remove rubber plugs on both sides of trunk. Check the picture out to see how it latches onto the trunk. I used a vise grip to get a good grip on it. Pull hard.

3. Pull carpet over the latch so you expose the inner side of the trunk. Make sure to just unlatch the trim piece around the emergency trunk release.

4. stick your hand in there to reach the housing for the license plate bulb. you'll have to do this by feel but it's not that hard. Here's what the inside looks like, the pic isn't that great, but it's the best i could do.

5. Finally, remove the bulb (sorry no pic forgot to take it and too lazy to rip apart the trunk again...hehe). Here's what the bulb looks like.

Thanks for the writeup on these, and good pics!.. ive done this before on other cars, it looks to be about the same, kind of a pain in the butt. Ive got a bunch of 194 superwhite LED's that will look great back there, but I havent gotten around to doing this yet.

I'm actually waiting for my 194 LED's from ebay and this part of the car hopefully i'll never have to open again

So, the factory bulb size is a 168???

 

Are the 194's going to work/fit just as well?
