HungHing88's TSX Xenon projecor retro

Recommended Posts

just finished about an hr ago. heres the first pics.

amazingly the smaller tsx unit was more of a challenge to fit properly then the large bmw e39 units i installed in my car due to their rectangular shape. you have plenty of room to work with vertically, but horizontally is a diff story. unless you want to get nuts.

the cutoff on these things is super crisp, i would dare to say audiesc...

enjoy the pics- and yes the high beam lens hasnt been cleaned only rinsed

will post again after final assembly. he wants me to paint his entire housings black.

peace

He shouldnt have the legacy reflector should be able to work perfectly and fit right in there.

+1 i love when people answer questions for me. thanks!

the shroud around the tsx unit is smaller then the oem so the total diameter is about 3-5 mm less. this means there will be a lsightly larger gap around the opening. so those who stick there faces in the headlamp will get to see it.

otherwise no one would know it was modified other then the black housings, but the amber lenses may throw them off. well non lgt peeps only.

here's some cutoff pics

the tsx units are very bright with med sized focal area and a sweet cutoff. def a good setup.

this is without the headlamp lens installed, so the end result will be slightly different

Take care when placing the outer headlamp lens and shroud back onto the housings. The upper-outer corner of the txs units usually will make contact with the shroud. Plan on doing some more cutting/grinding if that's the case.

i know exactly what you are talking about!!! good looking out. appreciate it. i cheated the tsx units about 2mm further back then the oem to help with that situation. i hoping i dont have to cut that corner down. we'll see.

How do these compare to our BMW units Mike?

-def not as easy to install

-don't spread light as far

-much smaller unit

-brighter with smaller focal area

-don't send light as high and as far to the left (for me this is very important becuase of all the deer in my area)

-nicer cutoff

-can't hide wiring in housing due to normal d2s ballasts

overall the tsx units are rated higher then the bmw e39s we have becuase of their cutoff and bright output directly infront. personally i would like our units with a different cutoff shield, but not worth the hassle of modifying.

on a side note i took a ride in a fellow member mmm def's new 335 bmw and it is running very similar or the same projector. cutoff and output is identical excpet his turn with the steering wheel and auto level :)

his were also slightly brighter and more yellow, but its becuase his bulbs are brand new and mine are at least 2-3 years. may be time to get new ones soon as mine have shifted higher up the kelvin scale and output is somewhat less. mine are setup to function like oem DRL so they are on all the time.

painted housings

at first he wanted to go all black and remove ambers and of course i said noooo!!! oem ownz you!!! and suggested keeping the chrome around the projector area and keeping the ambers.

i think it looks clean and sexy and drooling in oem greatness

i also left some of the chrome relfector for the blinker to work good

didnt clean the chrome yet

grinding neg

cutting oh yeah. ended up removing that entire mount in order for it to clear properly. def much more then i anticipated.

def something that will plague all rectangular shaped projectors in a lgt housing

  • 4 weeks later...

I just purchased a set of TSX projectors after my Valeo E-codes arrived broken. Can you clarify what area you are talking about adjusting?

From what i read here it seems like you had some issue with the projector lens (or housing?) and the LGT shroud? When you said you removed the entire mount what do you mean? Are you talking about the screws i see on the projector that hold it together?

I'm sure i will find out very quickly what needs to be adjusted once i get the projectors. But in the mean time i'd like to have an idea what i am in for.

Thanks!

Erich

i dont have pics, but the issue yo will come across is that when you try to fit the lens back on with the trim piece (shroud) it will hit on the top outer side becuase of the rectangular shape of the tsx projector. i basically had to cut that entire corner down.
