Monitor Visor -

Long story short -

1.Clarion EA1251B connects to McIntosh HU (with iPod plugged)

2.PIE Electonics Clarion AUX Audio Switcher connects between Clarion EA1251B and McIntosh HU, inline so to speak.

3. Carputer plugs into PIE Electonics Clarion AUX Audio Switcher

The ipod then becomes a mode option on the stereo, just like cd, am, fm etc. If you don't have the PC playing anything you will hear the ipod (or just use a blank clear silent mp3) but when the PIE Switcher senses input, it mutes the ipod audi oand you will only hear the AUX source which would be the PC.

You will need an ipod attached to the Clarion adapter to get the McIntosh to recognise it as a mode option (even if it's just a cr*p old ipod that you can grab used off ebay). The PIE adapter merely mutes the input from the clarion unit and pumps the aux in through when it senses voltage on the aux in lines. But for the HU to recognise the Clarion unit, it does need an ipod plugged in. It does charge the ipod also so don't worry about it going flat etc.

I can't stress enough how important it is to get the LCD mounting angle right, for me I found about 5-10 degrees slanted backward was just right.

Some pics below of my setup that you might interest you. Glovebox closes

fully normally, just got it open to show how everything is in there :p

I wish I had your HU!!! McIntosh FTW!!!

So do you have dual climate control? I don't see a knob on the other side where the defrost buttons are. Our defrost buttons are in the center of another jog knob for passanger temp control.

You should buy and sell those climate controls to the US - we want the split CD player / climate control!

FYI sweet setup man.

Thanks for the kind comments guys!

Yeh, thinking of selling only because I want to be able to literally throw heavy metal items in the back of my car and not worry about them rolling around. Unfortunately with the Lib I freak out even watching my mates putting a snowboard / surfboard on the roof or taking a mountain bike out of the back (no-one treats your car with care like you do :icon_wink ) so I think I just need to resign to the fact I will have to get a dirty stinkin ute instead.

Quite correct, Centrafuse for the front end and for GPS just using the latest AUS Destinator maps Version 2005.Q2.3446 through Centra (eg, just plonk the map folder in C:\DestinatorApps\Destinator\ select this map in the GPS setup and voila). Couldn't be easier.

The only thing I haven't taken full advantage of with the setup is the AMP power delay that the power supply allows for, so there is a little *plonk* from the speakers when the system starts up but that is it, nothing concerning.

Here's some more pics just to show you that the custom screen bezel aint perfect because I made it myself and I'm not the most handy guy (see the little dimples and a little "orange peel" on the paint on the bottom ... does the job though :icon_mrgr

Can also see the balsa wood frame in the back which I used to build the putty on to extend the base of the bezel to the front of the screen ... and yes that is a hell of a lot of hot glue. Basically after trying to come up with a bolt in retention system, it was a heck of a lot easier to hot glue it in as the glue as a little give but it otherwise strong as hell. If you wanted to remove the screen to repaint the bezel, the bond between the plastic and hot glue, whilst very strong, can be pulled apart with a bit of strength applied.

The Xenarc has also had about 1.5cm trimmed off either side so it fits snugly between the air vents. This was done with the case off the screen, and all that was removed is plastic. Did this so it can retain the protection of the case rahter than have the circuit board and stuff all open.

Anyway, here are the pics -->
