My best run with 91 Octane was 253/329

I went to the Sinclair station and got some race fuel and then the fun began

Jon was nice enough to create a race map for me :icon_twis

That run he achieved 270/339

The ride home was a blast. With the race map this car pulls like a muthah!

It was really nice to meet all of you today and Jon thank you, thank you!

Steve:

Thanks for asking this because I'm very interested in this issue where ours doesn't have it. It is in the parts list and in the service manual. The H4 turbo is suppose to have it according to Subaru. I might drop them an e-mail and ask them. Do you mind if I borrow your pic for this question to them?

Nope not at all. I can give you the originals if you want them.

For those keeping track, SOA has told me to contact the dealer, John Elway South, and have them look at this power streering cooler issue. I guess that will be the next step to see what they say about it.

Will update with news from here...

OK went to Elway tonight and the service writer claims that it is a "break in model year" issue.

I took this to mean that Subaru had some 2004MY parts left over and put them into my 2005MY car. I have asked SOA this question and am awaiting an answer.

I just want to make sure there won't be any power steering issues down the road since I plan on keeping this car for several years. Heat has a way of killing steering pumps and seals.

More to come...

Steve: Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I didn't want to start a new one on what I thought was going to be a quick issue.:)

On something related to this, the part numbers for the clutch master cylinder are the same for the 2003(NA), 2004(NA) and 2005(NA and FI) Legacies and it's different for the 2006, so that's likely true. Cheap bastards.

Hello ParkerGTL:

Thank you for your patience and for bringing your concern to our attention. I

have confirmed with our Technical Services, Product Planning and Parts

Departments that there was a mid-production year change for this component.

This change occured in January of 2005. 2005 Legacy 2.5GT Ltd Sedans produced

in February of 2005 onward were equipped as your vehicle is equipped. Your

Legacy was manufactured in April of 2005.

Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance. If you need any future

assistance, please feel free to contact us again.

Best wishes,

John J. Mergen

Subaru of America, Inc.

So check your build dates and lets get some feed back on this issue. From what I remember this doesn't seem to hold water...

Mine was April 2005 with no cooler just a black pipe.

Parker

PS: Jon you are going to hell, but at least I'll have some company down there. SU-BA-RU!  :icon_twis:lol:  "ParkerSTi"

Ok here is a question to all of you. One thing we noticed (not a big thing) was that some of us had the steering fluid cooler and some did not.

Only very early cars will have the P/S cooler. They redesigned the line and discontinued installing the finned version in Dec. 04.
