Switchblade/Flip Key

Well after hacking one OEM key to bits to see what makes it tick, I have finally managed to make a fully functioning remote/flip key :icon_chee! I'm sorry I don't have any pics of the process, I didn't know if I would be able to get it to work. Total cost was $30 shipped for the flip key shell and one OEM remote/Key. Here are a couple pics of what I ended up with. If anyone wants to do this I can offer any advice I have, but I don't know if I can do a walkthrough since I didn't take pics during the process:

Ya, or you could just charge people to do it, if so where does the line start?

Sweet. How difficult was it to set this up?

Not extremely, just took a lot of time and patience

what do you do with the chip inside the key?

Fellow Ute! That was the hardest part, those chips have to be positioned pretty carefully for the car to start. It's in the flip key next to the actual metal part.

cool but common! You have to post more details than that. wtf?

Sorry  I was too excited that I got it too work

I would love to do this mod, so any walkthroughs would be greatly appreciated

It's really pretty self explanatory once you have the pieces, PM me any ?'s and I'll do my best to help

Where did you get the shell?

ebay

How much would it cost to get you to make a few of these?

I would need you to mail me 1 key with chip inside and 1 remote that is programmed to the car already. I could take care of the shell and install for probably $100 each (sorry if that price sounds steep, it just takes a lot of time and caution). PM me if you're interested.

I just ebayed flip key, found one that looked similar to our button layout, and went from there. I could make them for people too, PM me if you're interested.

Does the back of yours have the Hundai logo?

It looks like you just take the guts out of your old remotes and put them in the switch blade style remote. Looks like they are aimed toward the Hundais though. I'm sure it doesn't take much hard work but some careful work to retro fit it for use with the subaru remote.

Any reason to think this wouldn't work with the 08+ key with the buttons integrated in?

None that I can think of, unless you have that newer one piece key/remote

You can probably make any key work, I chose this one because of the button layout and I liked the looks of it. It doesn't need to be for Subarus, the one I used says it's for Hyundais

Yeah thats the key, the Hyundai logo is a sticker that I opted to not put on for obvious reasons . And you're definitley right, it's not as hard as it is time consuming.

To confirm, you got a flip key on ebay (any kind), then ripped the guts out. Opened up one of the keys and remotes and ripped all the guts out. Then put all the guts in the new ebay shell, cut the key to the same size/shape as the one that came with it, put it all back together and voila?

Correct, I had the Hyundai key cut but it didn't work. Also, when I ordered the shell on ebay I made sure it was one with nothing in it.

Looking around, i believe that some of the Honda Flip Keys may work for us '08 guys. Same kinda layout with the panic button in the same spot. I'm gonna order one in the next couple of days and see if i can make it work.

++ UPDATE ++

this is what i ordered

I'm just getting the empty shell, but this is the closest button configuration to the 2008 Subaru Keys. I will let you guys know if i can get this to work. Hopefully i can!

I actually emailed the seller of that key, so well see what they say. I can confirm that the honda key is VERY close to the later tribeca key in terms of button placement. My partner has a fit and it looks almost identical.
